What does a wedding DJ cost in Brisbane?

$1,200 to $2,800 for most Brisbane weddings, set by hours rather than talent. The interesting part is what sits outside the package.

A birthday costs about half
A party DJ for four hours in Brisbane is $600 to $1,000. A wedding DJ for five or six is $1,800 to $2,800. Same equipment, often the same person. What you are paying for is the risk of a day that cannot be run again, and the planning hours in front of it.
MC duties swing wildly
DJ Corey charges $400 for an MC alone and nothing at all when you book the DJ too. DJ Brisbane adds $300. G&M Event Group adds $1,200. There is no market rate here. Ask, because the answer moves your budget by a thousand dollars.
Ceremony sound is usually not included
Most couples assume hiring a DJ covers the whole day. DJ Brisbane charges $300 for ceremony music. River City only folds it in at the $2,800 tier. If your ceremony and reception are in different spots, expect a second setup fee on top.
Overtime
$200 an hour is the Brisbane standard, billed in half hour blocks. It is the line most likely to appear on your final invoice, because receptions run over.
Read the deposit terms
- G&M: $350 non-refundable to hold the date.
- McGee: 25% non-refundable, balance 14 days out.
- DJ Corey: 30% non-refundable within three days of signing.
- BrisCity: 50% non-refundable, and 100% of the fee billed if you cancel inside 30 days.
That last one is the one to catch. Two DJs with identical headline prices are very different businesses if your plans change.
Travel
$50 to $150 for outer Brisbane, so Logan or Ipswich. $150 to $400 for the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast or Toowoomba. Some suppliers charge per kilometre beyond the nearest town. Island weddings are barge and accommodation on top.
Insurance, and when to book
$20 million public liability is what Brisbane venues ask for, cited independently by three unrelated suppliers. Ask for the certificate of currency - a working DJ has one on file and will send it without fuss.
Book nine to fourteen months out. Popular Saturdays between May and October go up to eighteen months ahead.
