What does it cost to hire a bartender in Brisbane?

About $50 to $75 an hour per bartender, with a three or four hour minimum. A mobile bar with staff starts around $570 for two hours if you supply the drinks. Here is what sits behind those numbers.
The hourly rate
Brisbane suppliers charge roughly $50 to $60 an hour for a standard bartender and around $75 for a cocktail bartender. Little Rum Runner lists additional bartenders at $50 an hour. Barmen For Hire publishes $60 for a standard bartender, $75 for cocktails and $55 for waitstaff.
That is what you pay, not what the bartender earns. The casual minimum under the Hospitality Award from 1 July 2026 is $33.05 an hour, and a public holiday is 2.25 times base at $59.49. The gap is the supplier's insurance, equipment, travel and margin.
Almost nobody will come for one hour
Three hours is the common minimum, four on some packages. Mobile bar packages are usually built on a two hour block with extra hours priced separately - Little Rum Runner charges $95 to $200 for each additional hour depending on the package.
What 80 guests actually needs
The industry rule is one bartender per 50 to 75 guests. At 80 you need two. At 150 you need three. This is the number that catches people out mid-quote, because two bartenders for four hours is a different conversation from one.
BYO versus letting them supply the drinks
This is the biggest single lever on the bill, and it is not close.

A bar cart is cheaper than a bar
A BYO bar cart runs $570 to $820 for two hours against $820 to $1,050 for a full mobile bar, same supplier. Extra hours are $95 to $135 rather than $160 to $200. If the drinks list is simple, the cart does the same job.
The costs that turn up after the quote
- Travel. Torley's charges beyond 30km from Wacol. Gold Coast suppliers add a call-out to come to Brisbane.
- Public holidays. Fire and Ginger adds 20%. Most Brisbane suppliers say a surcharge applies without publishing the number.
- Glassware, at $1.50 to $2.50 a head.
- Ice, and who is buying it.
Worth knowing: none of the Brisbane suppliers checked charge extra for an ordinary Saturday or Sunday, or for running past midnight.
Do you need a liquor licence?
For a private party where the drinks are free, or a BYO event, no. Queensland's Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation is explicit that a licence only comes into play once alcohol is sold. Brisbane City Council says the same.
RSA is a separate question. Anyone serving alcohol on licensed premises in Queensland needs an RSA certificate. If your venue is licensed, ask your supplier for their staff's - a professional will have it on hand.
